Scott and Rebecca Remmega

Welcome to Alapay Cellars! Established over a decade ago, we have an uncompromising philosophy of producing high-quality and hand-crafted French-oak barrel aged wines while presenting them in a fun, relaxed, and cozy tasting room atmosphere. We're wine tasting without the attitude! Our nearly 2000 square foot ocean-themed tasting room is located on the Central Coast in downtown Avila Beach—just a stone's throw from the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

Alapay Cellars boasts a total production level of over 5000 cases annually with all wines being purchased directly in the tasting room and through the wineries "rock star" level twice-yearly wine club membership. "We are very adamant about keeping our wines special and exclusive to tasting room patrons and wine club members alike. If you want Alapay wines, then you need to come see us in Avila Beach and experience what we are all about!" boasts winemaker/proprietors Scott and Rebecca Remmenga. The couple believes wine tasting should be fun and unpretentious. "Having a really good experience in the tasting room—tops it off for our customers," says Rebecca. "People are sometimes intimidated by wine, so we like to help them relax and make learning about wine and wine tasting an entertaining and enjoyable experience."

Alapay in the Chumash Indian language means "heavenly or world-above". It seemed a fitting name for Avila Beach's first bonded winery established back in 2001 by a pair of young and newly-married entrepreneurs eager to become a transforming part of what thriving Avila Beach is today. The name also ties into the subtle artistic interpretations of the cosmos featured on many of the wineries labels. Alapay Cellars boasts an impressive tasting list with a balanced flight of whites, reds and dessert wines. In any typical vintage year, the winery is making over a dozen different wines with an emphasis on the reds including a few "hard to find" varietals such as the soft Rhone style Cinsault as-well-as the more robust Italian varietal Lagrein—both wines are nearly always available for sampling in the tasting room. The winery is also known for its impressive Santa Barbara County Viognier and its old-vine Reserve Santa Maria Valley Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Noir. Both wines have garnished a long list of gold's, double-gold's, and Best of Class medals over the years.

Alapay is our favorite wine on the Central Coast. We served their wine at our wedding and everyone loved it. Scott is amazing to talk to very knowledgeable.

Our Production facility is located 30 miles south of our tasting room in Santa Maria, California. We cellar approximately 120-140 barrels of wine in any given harvest year with our winemaker/co-owner Scott Remmenga being 100% hands-on in the winemaking process. The grapes are harvested from nearby ultra-premium Central Coast vineyards from the Santa Ynez Valley to Paso Robles, California.

Open 7 days per week in downtown Avila Beach, we hope you will come and experience our "heavenly" wines from California's Central Coast!
